Even Strangers

These past few days with my family have been wonderful. I just watched my sisters graduate from CofO and couldn't be more proud of them. Wiss is now officially a nurse and Kathy is going to pursue a counseling degree after she spends a year at a Bible school in England.
After the graduation, I was sitting in a hammock on my brother's porch wondering, "How is the Lord going to use my life? What is His plan for me?" Right now I am in the process of becoming a math teacher. As I thought of that, something that I hadn't really thought about came to mind: How can I be more passionate, more dedicated to teaching children how to solve an equation than making sure they know how much their Creator love them?? Thousands of children across the world have no knowledge of how to read and write, let alone do algebra; they don't have clean water to drink, live in huts with no walls and only a dirt floor...yet their most desperate, urgent need is to understand who God is and what He has done for them. It makes me want to abandon everything here and run boldly over there to do something, anything.
But, even with these thoughts, I am confident of where the Lord has placed me for the time being. Sometimes...oftentimes it hard to be patient. I went to class this past semester and will go to class again this coming fall wondering, "What am I doing here?" Then I remind myself that someday I will be able to teachmath, but more importantly I will be building relationships with special people God has created, encouraging them in the truth of God's Word. But that's not all. I know God has a purpose in me being at Truman. It isn't the someday, but the present. I can't do anything myself, but each and every day, He is making me more like Christ, and each and every day He can use me to show Himself to my friends, aquaintances, and even strangers. There are professors who are so blinded by their own wisdom and experience, they cannot see the futility of their lives. There are students sitting next to me in lecture hall who may have more clothes than they can possibly wear in a month and  all the food they could want in the cafeteria, but just like those children, they have no understanding of who God really is and how much they need Him.
The biggest question in my mind is something my Dad told me a while ago, something I should ask myself this summer while I am in the Middle East and next year at Truman, and in the years beyond that are still unclear. "What is God doing here, and how can I be a part of it?" How can I glorify Him here?

  1. Love you, sweet friend. Love your heart and your passion for the Lord. He has placed that in you and has a purpose for your life. Can't wait to see what He does this summer as you travel across the world.
